If you've had to move and downsize, you may be left with a lot of stuff that you don't want to get rid of but you just don't have room for in your house anymore. So, what you can do about that? Well, you can either make the sacrifice and get rid of the things, even if you don't really want to, or you can choose put your stuff in a self-storage facility. If you are going to do that, there are things that you can do that will make it easier to deal with the self-storage unit.

Create Organization

One thing that will make it easier to for you to deal with the self-storage unit and to get to your stuff when you want to is if you start with organization in the first place. One way to do that is to start by putting specific things in specific places. For example, you may put all the boxes of books along one wall, while furniture may go against another. That way, when you go to grab your belongs, you have a rough idea as to where they should be, due to what they are.

Make a Map

Another thing you can do is to make a map. The map doesn't have to be exact down to the last inch, nor does it have to be incredibly precise. What you are looking for a is a rough approximation of where things are in your storage unit. A map can help you by helping you to remember where you put Grandma's china when you can't exactly recall. The map can also let other people know where things are, in general. That way they can go get stuff out of your storage unit for you, without having to worry about directions they might have a hard time with trying to remember.

Label Carefully

Another thing that you can do is to make sure that you label the boxes carefully. Ideally, you want to write what it's in the box on top of it, on one short end and on one long end. This way it's really easy for you to make sure that the labels are facing out so that you can read them.
